STAR Institute works with families using a variety of payment and insurance options. Insurance coverage varies based on your individual plan, benefits, services received, and other requirements established by your insurance provider. We encourage families to confirm their specific benefits directly with their insurance company.

Health First Colorado (Colorado Medicaid)

STAR Institute is an enrolled Health First Colorado (Colorado Medicaid) provider. Covered services are billed directly to Medicaid for eligible clients.

Medicaid eligibility, coverage, authorization requirements, and benefits may vary. Please contact us for more information or complete our New Client Inquiry Form and select Medicaid as your insurance.

Kaiser Permanente Colorado

STAR Institute is an in-network provider with Kaiser Permanente Colorado for occupational therapy services.

Coverage and out-of-pocket costs vary based on each individual’s Kaiser plan, benefits, and the specific services provided. We encourage families to confirm their occupational therapy benefits directly with Kaiser prior to beginning services. Even when services are covered, families may be responsible for deductibles, copays, coinsurance, or other out-of-pocket costs.

Our team is happy to help you navigate the process and provide information about STAR’s services when speaking with your insurance plan.

Other Insurance / Out-of-Network Benefits

For insurance plans other than Health First Colorado and Kaiser Permanente Colorado, STAR Institute is generally considered an out-of-network provider. Families are responsible for payment at the time of service, and STAR can submit claims and supporting documentation to your insurance company on your behalf for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Reimbursement is not guaranteed and depends on your insurance company, individual plan, deductible, out-of-network benefits, and the services provided.

Before beginning treatment, we recommend contacting your insurance provider and asking:

  • Do I have out-of-network benefits for occupational therapy, speech-language/feeding therapy, and/or behavioral health services?
  • What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much has already been met?
  • After meeting my deductible, what percentage of the allowed amount will my plan reimburse?
  • Are there limits on the number of therapy visits allowed per calendar year?
  • Is prior authorization or a referral required?
  • Are there specific requirements or exclusions for evaluation or therapy services?

Please keep in mind that verification of benefits is not a guarantee of payment. Final coverage is determined by your insurance company when a claim is processed.

Private Pay

Families may also choose to pay privately for services. Payment is due at the time of service.

Pre-payment discounts of $15 per qualified service may be available when eligible services are paid in full prior to the first therapy session. Please speak with a STAR team member for additional information.

Sliding Scale

As part of our commitment to making services accessible to families, STAR Institute offers a sliding scale based on household income. Households earning less than $140,000 annually may qualify for reduced session fees. Please contact our team if you are interested in learning more.

Other Payment Resources

If your employer offers a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or you have a Health Savings Account (HSA), you may be able to use those funds toward eligible therapy expenses. Please check with your plan administrator regarding eligible expenses.
