Let us help you find a therapist. STAR Institute's Mental Health team offers a safe respectful, non-judgmental place with multiple specialists available to support your unique needs.

Areas of expertise: family support, relationships, neurodivergent populations (autism, ADHD, highly sensitive, gifted, etc), sensory processing differences, play therapy, couples therapy, parent coaching, family counseling, trauma, adult counseling, anxiety, depression, grief, anger, self-esteem, and social confidence.

An exceptional aspect of the treatment approach offered at STAR Institute is the use of a multidisciplinary team. Our highly trained Mental Health team specializes in the psychological impacts of differences in Sensory Processing on well-being.

Support from the Mental Health team is included in all treatment programs at STAR providing tailored services to each family.

The Mental Health team can offer parent-child relationship support, positive and emotional focused parenting strategies, and comprehensive family support plans. If additional coaching, counseling, or support is recommended by the treatment team or requested by families, ongoing counseling, and/or coaching can be easily added to most occupational therapy programs.

Common pediatric/family focused goals of the mental health team can also include:

  • Parental confidence and the parent-child relationship, managing problematic behaviors

  • Balancing positive interactions between children with sensory differences and their caregivers

  • Supporting parents with their own differences in sensory processing and emotional issues stemming from childhood
